To make spirituality about being ‘rewarded’ with liberation or enlightenment is to completely miss the point of what it is about and only reflects our compulsive self-centric tendencies. ‘You’ must fall and surrender, for only Life has carried you all this time and only Life can.

Never belong to the herd even as you sit and move with them, and love them.

Sākṣi (witness) is not a "state".
It is the experiential awareness that all states are just as much a part of the dream regardless of whatever purpose they may or may not serve in phenomenal reality.
