One cannot do anything interesting and inspiring if they can't dare to be disliked. 
Conformity begets mediocrity and shared bondage with everyone directly or indirectly involved.
Have no images. Recruit no one to guard them. 
Be insanely free.

Never belong to the herd even as you sit and move with them, and love them.

Sākṣi (witness) is not a "state".
It is the experiential awareness that all states are just as much a part of the dream regardless of whatever purpose they may or may not serve in phenomenal reality.
